Electric Bicycles

We’ve used a couple of different electric bicycles here over the years - our first ones are from Henizman - a well made bike from Germany. The battery packs in these are getting near to needing replacement and the NiCad batteries have probably been improved on since. Being all-steel, and with the extra battery weight, they are heavy going when the batteries go flat.
We are currently trying out a Chinese made Hawk which has Li Ion batteries and claims a range of 25 miles. The picture here is of the Hawk with a “ride-behind” bike for kids. We got this from Chain Reaction Cycles in the UK who had free delivery which astonished us by arriving the next day.
Our home is 5 miles uphill from Bantry which takes the fun out of cycling. Electric bikes give that extra bit of push when going against a stiff breeze or up a steep hill. They certainly make a lot more sense than having a one-ton car hauling our 80kg bodies around the place…
